Why AirTags Fail in Remote Areas

AirTag needs nearby Apple devices. Remote areas often do not have them.

AirTag is excellent for keys, bags, and city item finding. But it is not a GPS tracker and it does not know its own satellite location.

In remote areas, that limitation becomes obvious. If there are no nearby Apple devices to relay the tag's Bluetooth signal, location updates may stop.

How AirTag Actually Works

AirTag broadcasts a Bluetooth signal. Nearby Apple devices can detect that signal and report the location through Apple's Find My network.

That system is powerful in populated areas but weak in forests, fields, mountains, and rural land with few people nearby.

Why Real GPS Is Different

A real GPS tracker receives coordinates from satellites on the tracked object itself. It does not need a stranger's phone nearby to determine location.

Loko then sends those GPS coordinates locally by LoRa radio, making it better suited for remote tracking and recovery.

The Right Tool for the Environment

Use AirTag for inexpensive urban item finding. Use a real GPS tracker when the object may leave phone crowds, cellular coverage, or internet access behind.

FAQ

Does AirTag work in remote areas?

Only if another Apple device comes close enough to detect it. Otherwise updates can stop.

Does AirTag have GPS?

No. AirTag does not include a GPS receiver.

Why is Loko better for remote areas?

Loko uses real GPS and LoRa radio instead of depending on nearby phones.

Is AirTag useless?

No. It is useful for city item finding, but it is not the right tool for remote GPS tracking.

Loko GPS Tracker uses GPS plus LoRa radio for local tracking without SIM cards, internet, or monthly subscriptions.
