GPS Tracker No SIM Card
Real GPS tracking without a SIM, cellular plan, or carrier contract.
A GPS tracker does not need a SIM card to calculate its position. GPS satellites provide location data. The SIM card is only needed when a tracker sends that location through a cellular network.
Loko removes the cellular layer. The Loko Air tracker receives GPS coordinates and transmits them directly to a Loko Ground receiver using LoRa P2P radio. That means no SIM card, no data plan, no carrier coverage requirement, and no monthly bill.
Quick Comparison
| Feature | Cellular GPS tracker | Loko LoRa GPS tracker |
|---|---|---|
| SIM card | Required | Not required |
| Monthly carrier plan | Usually required | No |
| Works without cell service | No | Yes |
| Cloud server dependency | Usually yes | No for P2P tracking |
| Best use | Cities and highways | Remote land, drones, farms, pets |
Why GPS Trackers Usually Need SIM Cards
Most consumer GPS trackers use two separate systems. GPS receives location from satellites, while cellular sends that location to your phone through the internet. The SIM card enables the second part.
That design is convenient in cities, but it creates recurring costs and makes the tracker dependent on cell towers. If the tracker loses cellular service, the GPS chip may still know where it is, but it cannot send that position to you.
How Loko Works Without a SIM
Loko uses LoRa radio instead of cellular data. The tracker sends small location packets directly to your receiver over long-range radio. Your phone connects to the receiver over Bluetooth.
This direct-radio design is useful for farms, hiking routes, drone recovery, field work, and rural pet tracking where cellular coverage is weak or unavailable.
When a No-SIM Tracker Is the Right Fit
Choose a no-SIM GPS tracker when you control the tracking area, want predictable long-term cost, and need coverage outside normal cellular networks.
Choose a cellular tracker when you need nationwide tracking from anywhere and are comfortable with subscription fees and cloud infrastructure.

FAQ
Can a GPS tracker work without a SIM card?
Yes. GPS reception itself does not require a SIM card. A SIM is only needed for trackers that send location through cellular networks.
Does Loko use cellular towers?
No. Loko uses LoRa P2P radio between the tracker and receiver, then Bluetooth from the receiver to your phone.
Is a no-SIM GPS tracker good for remote areas?
Yes, if you are within radio range of the receiver and the tracker has sky visibility for GPS.
Does no SIM mean no monthly fee?
For Loko, yes. Because there is no cellular plan, there is no carrier subscription to pay.
Loko GPS Tracker uses GPS plus LoRa radio for local tracking without SIM cards, internet, or monthly subscriptions.
